The Associated Press faced backlash after abruptly ending an interview with legendary producer Babyface to chase after singer Chappell Roan during their Grammy Awards red carpet coverage.

During AP's live stream, reporters Leslie Ambriz and Krysta Fauria were discussing genre-bending trends in music with Babyface when Fauria suddenly began calling out to Chappell Roan. Babyface graciously handed back the microphone as Ambriz apologized before shifting attention to Roan.

Babyface's representative Ernest Dukes later released a statement focusing on the positive aspects of the evening: "The best part of the night was reconnecting with old friends, meeting new artists, and feeling all the love in the room. That's what I'll remember. That's what it's really about. Music is bigger than any one moment."

The incident drew criticism from several celebrities, including Dionne Warwick and Khloé Kardashian, who called the treatment "disrespectful" considering Babyface's significant impact on the music industry.

AP issued an apology on X/Twitter: "We are deeply sorry for cutting our interview with Babyface short on our YouTube livestream of the Grammys red carpet. We have apologized to him through his representative and to our viewers on the live stream."

Reporter Krysta Fauria also personally apologized, citing the red carpet's chaotic environment while acknowledging her respect for Babyface's legacy.

Social media users criticized the reporters' professionalism, particularly noting the irony of interrupting Babyface during a discussion about genre-blending, given his pioneering work in mixing R&B, pop, and rap throughout his career.
