Australia's Bluesfest Byron Bay appears set to continue beyond 2025, despite earlier announcements of its conclusion. Festival organizer Peter Noble recently revealed plans for a 2026 edition during an IQ interview.

Noble explained that the initial cancellation announcement was a strategic move to highlight lack of government support, particularly compared to international events like SXSW and Live Nation shows receiving substantial subsidies in Australia.

The strategy has proven effective, with government discussions resuming following public reaction to the cancellation news. The 2025 festival is tracking to be "our most successful festival yet," with approximately 90,000 tickets sold. Four-day passes are priced at $350, with single-day tickets at $134 (pre-fees and taxes).

This positive development comes amid a challenging landscape for music festivals globally, with over 170 cancellations or delays in 2024 alone. Several Australian festivals, including Splendour in the Grass, Vintage Vibes, and You & Me, have been affected.

The 2025 edition will run for four days instead of the traditional five, and organizers are already exploring booking options for 2026. Despite industry-wide challenges, major artists continue to announce tours, including Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Pearl Jam, and Keith Urban, demonstrating ongoing demand for live music experiences.
