Approximately 10,000 AI-generated tracks are being uploaded to Deezer daily, representing about 10% of the platform's daily content delivery. The streaming service has responded by developing and implementing an AI music detector to identify these machine-made compositions.

The detector currently focuses on identifying AI tracks from major generators like Suno and Udio, with capabilities to expand detection to other AI music creation tools. Deezer is also working on a more advanced system that can detect AI-generated content without requiring specific training datasets.

Key findings about AI music on Deezer:

  • Most AI-generated tracks uploaded never receive any streams
  • The influx is potentially diluting the catalog
  • There are concerns about fraudulent activity
  • AI tracks represent approximately 10,000 of the 100,000 daily uploads

In response, Deezer's head Alexis Lanternier announced plans to:

  • Develop a comprehensive tagging system for AI-generated content
  • Exclude AI tracks from algorithmic recommendations
  • Remove AI content from editorial recommendations
  • Protect artists' and songwriters' rights and revenues

This initiative comes as streaming platforms grapple with the increasing presence of AI-generated music. For context, Deezer currently provides access to over 120 million tracks, while Spotify offers about 100 million tracks. The move represents one of the first major steps by a streaming platform to actively manage and segregate AI-generated content from human-created music.
