Ed Sheeran has settled a copyright infringement lawsuit over his song 'The Rest Of Our Life,' written for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. The settlement resolves allegations from Australian songwriters Sean Carey and Beau Golden, who claimed the song copied their work 'When I Found You,' originally performed by Jasmine Rae.

The lawsuit, filed earlier this year, alleged "verbatim, note-for-note copying" of original elements from Carey and Golden's song. The case was particularly notable as it involved Richard Busch, the attorney who successfully represented the Marvin Gaye Estate in the landmark 'Blurred Lines' case against Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke.

According to court documents filed in the US District Court in Manhattan, the parties have agreed "in principle" to settle the case. The lawsuit will be dismissed within 30 days once final issues are resolved.

This settlement marks one resolution among multiple copyright challenges Sheeran faces. He remains a defendant in two other lawsuits filed in the same court, including cases related to alleged similarities with Marvin Gaye's 'Let's Get It On' and Matt Cardle's 'Amazing.'

Notable copyright cases against Sheeran include:

  • 2016: $20 million lawsuit over alleged similarities to 'Amazing'
  • Multiple lawsuits regarding 'Let's Get It On' from various parties
  • Current settlement over 'The Rest Of Our Life'
