This partnership emphasizes Facebook's commitment to growing its music offerings, particularly in India's rapidly developing market. Facebook India Director Manish Chopra highlighted that music will play a crucial role in their platform's growth strategy, especially focusing on 90s content from Tips Music.
The deal has already shown positive financial impact, with Tips Industries' stock price increasing by 12.5% to $4.42 (₹325.25) per share. The company's stock value has more than tripled since early 2020.
Facebook's music-focused expansion in India includes several strategic moves:
- Launch of licensed music videos
- Securing major label licenses for Facebook Gaming
- Acquiring 9.99% stake in JioSaavn parent company Reliance Jio for $5.7 billion
- Introduction of "Reels" on Instagram to compete with TikTok
This partnership comes at a crucial time in India's digital music landscape, following TikTok's ban in the country and increased competition from other streaming services. The deal reinforces Facebook's position in India's entertainment market, where domestic streaming services and international platforms are actively expanding their presence.
