Harry Fox Agency Challenges Claims in Eminem-Spotify Royalties Lawsuit
The Harry Fox Agency (HFA) has responded to allegations in the ongoing lawsuit between Eminem's publisher Eight Mile Style and Spotify over unpaid royalties.

Eight Mile Style initially sued Spotify in August 2019, claiming copyright infringement on 243 Eminem tracks. The lawsuit seeks $150,000 per infringed track (totaling $36.45 million) plus a share of Spotify's revenue from these works.
Spotify denied these claims, stating Eight Mile Style had received "substantial royalty payments" for nearly a decade. The streaming platform later brought Kobalt Music Publishing into the case, asserting they were properly licensed through Kobalt to distribute Eminem's music.
Eight Mile Style then added HFA as a defendant, alleging that HFA and Spotify orchestrated a "fraudulent scheme" to hide Spotify's failure to obtain proper mechanical licenses for Eminem's tracks.
HFA has now filed a motion in Nashville federal court requesting an oral argument to address these claims, citing the case's complex legal and factual issues. The agency believes oral arguments would "serve the interests of judicial efficiency and economy."
Meanwhile, Spotify has continued expanding its services, recently patenting AI-powered "spoken words analyzer" technology and planning to launch in South Korea in early 2021.
