Initially reporting light smoke, firefighters discovered heavy fire on the fourth floor that quickly spread to the roof. Over 100 firefighters spent 97 minutes battling the blaze, which was contained to the building without spreading to nearby structures.

Several dozen homeless individuals evacuated the building, with some requiring assistance from firefighters. While no injuries have been reported, the LAFD has launched an active investigation into the fire's cause. A recovery team will search for potential remains once the structure is deemed safe to enter.

The Morrison Hotel, vacant for over 15 years, had been designated as a frequent LAFD training site. Recent plans had included the historic building in a comprehensive restoration and redevelopment project aimed at revitalizing the surrounding area.

Doors members John Densmore and Robby Krieger haven't publicly commented on the fire. Krieger, 78, shared several Jim Morrison paintings on Instagram and is scheduled for a benefit concert on January 4th.

The Morrison Hotel's destruction marks the loss of a significant piece of rock music history, having been immortalized on The Doors' album cover and standing as a cultural landmark in Los Angeles for over a century.
