Despite not being his "cup of tea," Rock expressed respect for Lamar's unapologetic performance, drawing parallels to his own career approach. Having grown up immersed in hip-hop culture, Rock claimed to understand the cultural context better than most white observers.

Rock attributed the performance's booking to Jay-Z and the NFL's diversity initiatives, suggesting that Colin Kaepernick's anthem protests inadvertently paved the way for this showcase. He described Lamar's performance as "the most exclusive thing ever," noting how it specifically spoke to Black audiences without compromise.

The commentary comes shortly after Rock's own controversial performance at Jon Bon Jovi's Nashville bar on February 8, where he stormed off stage during "Proud Mary" after the crowd failed to participate in his requested crowd interaction. The incident ended with Rock abandoning the performance while his band continued playing.
