Written by John Paul Young and produced by John Carter, the rock-influenced track features a guitar solo accompanied by organ and drums. Originally intended for the 1984 Private Dancer album, it was ultimately left off the final release.

Private Dancer marked a pivotal moment in Turner's career, selling 10 million copies and earning three Grammy awards. The album's breakthrough single "What's Love Got to Do With It" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the album peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

Turner passed away on May 24, 2023, at age 83. Her legacy includes not only her musical achievements but also her role as an inspiration to abuse survivors, having detailed her experiences with former husband Ike Turner in her 1986 autobiography, I, Tina.

The 40th anniversary edition of Private Dancer will feature "Hot For You Baby" alongside other previously unreleased material, adding to Turner's extensive catalog that was recently celebrated in a 55-track greatest hits compilation released shortly after her death.
