Prince's estate has cancelled the Netflix documentary by Ezra Edelman in favor of producing their own authorized version featuring exclusive archival content.

The original six-part, nine-hour documentary series by Oscar-winning filmmaker Edelman took five years to create with initially-approved access to Prince's archives. However, the estate rejected the final product, citing "dramatic factual inaccuracies" and "sensationalized" content, particularly regarding allegations of abuse from former girlfriends including Jill Jones.

L. Londell McMillan, co-manager of Prince Legacy LLC, confirmed that the estate has reached a new agreement with Netflix to produce their own documentary, stating it will be "an in-depth piece that explores the complexities of the brilliant musical genius."

While the release date remains unannounced, Netflix appears to be maintaining its partnership with the estate for this new authorized documentary project, which promises to showcase exclusive content from Prince's personal archives.

The decision reflects the estate's commitment to maintaining control over Prince's legacy and ensuring an accurate portrayal of the artist's life and work through authorized channels.
