The acquisition includes works from notable artists such as Zero 7, The Beloved, Paul Oakenfold, and Dirty Vegas. New State's legacy artists will now be marketed and promoted by Reservoir's Chrysalis division, while the label will continue signing and releasing new electronic and dance music under its existing brand.

Tom Parkinson will remain as New State's head, maintaining leadership of the company's sub-labels: Butterfly Effect, Maelstrom Records, and Upcycle Recordings.

The deal significantly strengthens Reservoir's position in recorded music:

  • Increases total recordings from 36,000 to approximately 49,000
  • Complements existing portfolio of 150,000 compositions
  • Recorded revenue reached $11.96 million in Q4 2024 (19.65% YoY increase)
  • Digital recorded revenue grew 24% to $8.14 million

This acquisition follows a broader industry trend of investment in electronic and dance music, with recent notable deals including:

  • Create Music Group's 50% acquisition of Enhanced Music
  • Believe's 25% stake in Romania's Global Records
  • Warner Music's purchase of Cloud 9's label
  • Armada Music's BEAT fund investments
