Building on this success, SiriusXM has commissioned Maxar Space Systems to construct three additional satellites: SXM-10, SXM-11, and SXM-12. The SXM-10 is scheduled for launch later this year.
Key Features of SXM-9:
- Built on the Maxar 1300 platform
- Height: 27+ feet
- Length: 100+ feet (with deployed solar arrays)
- Weight: 6,400 kg at launch
- Equipped with L3Harris S-band reflector antenna
- Reaches approximately 167 million SiriusXM-equipped vehicles
The satellite strengthens SiriusXM's audio entertainment and information services across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. It represents the tenth high-powered, digital audio radio satellite built by Maxar Space Systems for SiriusXM.
Bridget Neville, SiriusXM's Senior Vice President & GM of Signal Distribution Engineering, emphasized that these satellite deployments will enhance their fleet's capabilities for decades to come, enabling continued innovation in their service delivery.
Chris Johnson, CEO of Maxar Space Systems, highlighted the Maxar 1300 platform's adaptability and reliability as key factors in meeting SiriusXM's requirements for both current and future satellite deployments.
