Snoop Dogg has announced his departure from Spotify in favor of blockchain-powered streaming platform Tune.fm, where he's exclusively released his new single "Spaceship Party."

The rap legend cited disappointing royalty payments as the primary reason for the switch, claiming he received only $45,000 from one billion Spotify streams. Spotify responded by stating that a billion streams typically generates "millions of dollars" for rightsholders, suggesting potential issues with intermediary payment distribution.

Key aspects of Tune.fm's offering include:

  • Payments up to 100x higher than traditional streaming services
  • Instant per-second royalty payments using JAM cryptocurrency
  • Built-in crypto wallets for users
  • NFT, merchandise, and concert ticket sales capabilities
  • Exclusive content and VIP fan experiences

Tune.fm founder and CEO Andrew Antar, who contributed violin to Snoop's new track, welcomed the artist as the platform's new face. The company recently secured $50 million in funding and is actively engaging with major labels and distributors.

While Snoop's catalog remains available on Spotify (where he has nearly 30 million monthly listeners), he's planning additional Tune.fm initiatives, including private events and exclusive merchandise drops.

The platform aims to provide a more focused music streaming experience, differentiating itself from traditional services increasingly crowded with podcasts, audiobooks, and AI-generated content.
