Spotify Teams Up With Google for AI-Powered Wrapped Podcast Experience

Spotify has partnered with Google to create personalized AI-generated podcasts that offer detailed audio recaps of users' yearly music listening habits, expanding on their traditional Wrapped experience.

The podcast features two AI hosts powered by Google's NotebookLM technology, who analyze and discuss listeners' favorite tracks, artists, and how their musical preferences evolved throughout the year.

To access your AI-generated podcast:

  • Navigate to the Wrapped feed on Spotify's homepage
  • Visit Spotify.com/WrappedAIpodcast
  • Click on 'Your Wrapped AI Podcast'
  • Option to share or download the podcast is available

The feature is currently available in English for both Free and Premium users in select regions: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and Sweden. Access is time-limited.

This initiative comes amid recent changes at Spotify, including significant layoffs affecting 17% of their workforce. Notable among those affected was Glenn McDonald, a key data engineer behind the Every Noise at Once website, which previously enhanced Spotify's personalization features including the Daylist playlist.

McDonald's departure has impacted Spotify's data analysis capabilities, with many users noting differences in this year's Wrapped experience compared to previous years. The AI podcast represents Spotify's new direction in personalizing user experiences, though reception has been mixed among listeners.

The new AI podcast feature serves as both an innovation and a reflection of Spotify's shifting approach to user engagement and data analysis in the streaming era.
