Tony Buzbee Drops Out of Diddy Lawsuits After Jay-Z Files Grievance
Texas attorney Tony Buzbee has withdrawn from 14 lawsuits against Sean 'Diddy' Combs in New York federal court, citing complications with his legal admission status and a grievance filed by Jay-Z.

Buzbee's withdrawal stems from his lack of permission to practice law in the Southern District of New York (SDNY). He filed for admission on January 29, months after initiating the lawsuits. The Committee on Grievances denied his petition, noting he had appeared in cases without proper admission.
Judge Ronnie Abrams identified Buzbee's violation of local court rules. In response, Buzbee acknowledged an "error in judgment" in failing to inform judges about his admission status. Despite being in good standing with the New York State Bar, Texas State Bar, and Eastern District of New York, he opted to withdraw to prevent distracting from the cases' merit.
Buzbee claims Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) filed a grievance to prevent his admission, describing it as "a formality" he must address. He noted that among multiple lawyers handling the case, he alone faced a grievance.
In his defense, Buzbee explained he electronically signed pleadings alongside admitted local counsel who filed all documents. Meanwhile, Diddy's legal team stated they typically don't oppose pro hac vice applications but argued Buzbee's "egregious misconduct" justified denying him court privileges.
The unnamed Plaintiff will continue to be represented by the co-filing New York law firm. This development follows a separate incident where another of Buzbee's clients recently dropped their sexual assault lawsuit.
