Universal Music Group (UMG) has announced a significant reorganization of its Nashville operations to capitalize on country music's growing global influence. The restructuring brings key leadership changes to strengthen UMG's decade-long position as the US leader in country music.

Mike Harris, former COO and EVP of UMG Nashville, has been appointed as CEO, while nine-time Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb takes on the role of Chief Creative Officer. Cindy Mabe, who served as Chair and CEO of UMG Nashville, will be departing to pursue other opportunities.

UMG Chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge emphasized the company's commitment to expanding their Nashville presence, noting that country music's worldwide success demonstrates its borderless appeal.

Mike Harris brings extensive industry experience, having joined UMG Nashville in 2016 after 15 years at EMI in various leadership roles, including EVP GM for Caroline.

Dave Cobb's appointment as Chief Creative Officer brings significant creative expertise to the role. His impressive portfolio includes producing multiple platinum albums and working with artists such as:

  • Chris Stapleton (6x-platinum Traveller)
  • Jason Isbell (Southeastern)
  • Brandi Carlile (By the Way I Forgive You)
  • Recent works with Mumford & Sons, Zayn, and Greta Van Fleet

Cobb has also established himself as a prominent figure in film music production, contributing to notable projects including:

  • Baz Luhrmann's ELVIS
  • The Eyes of Tammy Faye
  • The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
  • A Star Is Born (2018)

The restructuring reflects UMG's strategic focus on strengthening its position in the evolving country music landscape while expanding the genre's global reach and commercial potential.
