Universal Music Releases Nirvana's 'Nevermind' 30th Anniversary Editions, Keeping Iconic Original Cover
Universal Music has released 30th anniversary editions of Nirvana's 'Nevermind' album featuring the original, unaltered cover artwork, despite an ongoing child pornography lawsuit from Spencer Elden, who appeared as a baby on the album cover.

The anniversary editions include digital downloads, CDs shipping in November, and a premium 8 180-gram LP collection scheduled for May 2022. Universal Music and Geffen announced these releases on the album's original release date anniversary in September, maintaining their plans despite Elden's legal action.
The lawsuit, filed by Spencer Elden, demands "all profits and unjust enrichment" from the album, which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. Recent developments show that mediation attempts have failed, and Elden is preparing to file an updated complaint by November 22nd. The defendants must respond by January 21st.
Dave Grohl has suggested that Nirvana might eventually change the album cover, though Universal's decision to proceed with the original artwork suggests confidence in their legal position. The case took an unexpected turn when an "intervenor defendant" attempted to join the lawsuit, but the judge dismissed this request.
