BRIT Awards 2025 Sparks 800+ Ofcom Complaints Over Sabrina Carpenter's Provocative Performance
The 2025 BRIT Awards ceremony has received over 800 complaints to Ofcom, with Sabrina Carpenter's performance drawing the most attention.

Brit Awards performance by Sabrina Carpenter
Carpenter's medley performance of "Espresso," "Bed Chem," and "Rule Britannia!" sparked controversy due to her provocative costume changes and dance routine. The performance featured her in a King's Guard-inspired outfit that transformed into a red teddy with stockings, while she performed on a pink and purple heart-shaped bed surrounded by dancers.
Additional complaints targeted Charli XCX's appearance and comments about her outfit. During one of her five award acceptance speeches, she addressed ITV's alleged concerns about her black dress, remarking "I heard that ITV were complaining about my nipples. I feel like we're in the era of 'free the nipple' though, right?"
An Ofcom spokesperson confirmed they received 825 total complaints and are currently assessing them against their broadcasting rules. This number is relatively small compared to previous incidents, such as the 58,000 complaints received in 2021 regarding Piers Morgan's comments about Meghan Markle.
The timing of the performances may factor into any potential investigation, as the BRIT Awards aired from 8:15 pm to 10:40 pm, spanning the UK watershed hour of 9:00 pm, after which adult content is permitted. Given the low number of complaints, a formal investigation appears unlikely.
