Brooklyn Made, a prominent Bushwick music venue, has unexpectedly ceased operations amid a complex legal dispute between its owners Anthony Makes and Kelly Winrich.

The venue, which opened nearly four years ago, announced its closure with a brief statement: "Brooklyn Made is closed, all shows are cancelled. Ticket refunds will be issued at point of purchase."

The closure stems from a significant legal battle where Winrich accused Makes and his wife of:

  • Fraudulent inducement
  • Breach of fiduciary duties
  • Mismanaging ventures
  • Diverting company funds for personal use
  • Restricting access to finances and operations

Court documents reveal Winrich and his family invested over $75 million in various live music ventures. Makes allegedly promised lucrative partnerships, including a potential Spotify investment, to secure long-term leases and additional capital.

The parties reached a settlement in principle, leading to the venue's closure. Makes expressed satisfaction with the partnership's end, stating: "I am very pleased that this partnership has ended and I am out of those buildings. I'm confident my 35 years of contributing to the live music business speaks for itself."

The abrupt shutdown has affected numerous scheduled performances, with artists like Amigo the Devil relocating their shows to alternative venues. The venue, which had planned to expand with additional locations across the street, now joins the growing list of independent music venues facing closure in the current economic climate.
