CD Baby Confirms Layoffs, Customer Support Team Most Affected By Staff Cuts
CD Baby, owned by Downtown Music Holdings, has implemented layoffs affecting multiple staff members, primarily in its Creator Services customer support unit. While the exact number remains unconfirmed, sources suggest over 20 employees have been impacted.
In an official statement, CD Baby explained the restructuring: "We are consolidating certain CD Baby functions with Downtown and re-allocating resources towards long-term growth opportunities. Unfortunately, this has resulted in the elimination of certain roles and positions."

This development follows a broader trend of layoffs across the music industry in 2024:
- Warner Music Group: Fourth round of cuts in 18 months, affecting 750 people
- Universal Music Group: 4% workforce reduction (400-800 jobs)
- Tidal: 25% staff reduction (approximately 100 positions)
- iHeartRadio: 5% workforce reduction (around 500 positions)
- Additional cuts at Distrokid, Spotify, BMG, and Cumulus
Despite these changes, CD Baby affirmed its commitment to maintaining its "music-first and pioneering approach" while continuing to develop services that benefit artists now and in the future.
