Chappell Roan's Grammy Speech Sparks Industry Movement: Noah Kahan, Charli XCX Join $25,000 Donation Wave
Grammy winner Chappell Roan's call for music industry reform has sparked significant action and debate, with multiple artists and organizations now stepping forward to support better artist healthcare and compensation.
During her Best New Artist acceptance speech, Roan advocated for labels to provide artists with livable wages, health insurance, and protection, stating "Labels, we got you, but do you got us?"

Several prominent artists have joined the cause:
- Charli XCX and Noah Kahan each pledged $25,000 donations
- AEG Global Touring, Live Nation, and the Wasserman Foundation matched these contributions
- Backline launched the "We Got You! Campaign" to support artists' mental health
- The Ivors Academy is pushing for songwriter compensation reform in the UK
Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic shared that joining the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) through Geffen Records provided him lasting health insurance, though this may not be readily available to today's emerging artists.
The initiative has revealed a broader industry issue: while established artists often receive health coverage from their labels, new artists typically must wait until generating sufficient revenue before accessing these benefits.
Backline Community Manager Terra Lopez emphasizes the campaign's significance: "The We Got You! Campaign is a powerful step in prioritizing mental health and well-being of those who make the music we all love. Together, we are showing artists they are seen, heard, and cared for."
The movement continues to gain momentum as more industry stakeholders join the conversation about artist welfare and sustainable music industry practices.
