The United States Marshals Service will auction Dash's 33.3% ownership stake in Roc-A-Fella Records on August 29, with a minimum bid of $1.2 million. The auction primarily concerns rights to Jay-Z's debut album, "Reasonable Doubt," as the label dissolved in 2013.
Multiple parties are vying for the auction proceeds:
- Josh Webber: Owed $823,000 from a civil lawsuit judgment
- Department of Social Services: First priority claim for $145,096 in child support
- New York State: Claims $8.7 million in back-taxes and penalties from 2005-2018
The New York Department of Taxation & Finance filed a motion in Manhattan federal court to intervene in the proceedings, stating this auction may be their final opportunity to recover some of the long-standing tax debt.
The auction will take place at a Manhattan hotel, with proceeds being distributed according to legal priority. Roc-A-Fella's other musical catalogs are not included in this sale.
