Deezer has partnered with SACEM to implement its 'artist-centric payment system (ACPS)' for publishing rights in France, becoming the first digital service provider to update its streaming remuneration model for publishing.

The new model introduces two key features:

  1. Artists with 1,000+ streams from 500 different subscribers monthly receive double the per-stream payment
  2. Songs found through active searches or non-algorithmic playlists also receive doubled compensation

This system aims to reward genuine artists building their fanbase while combating streaming fraud. The initiative follows Deezer's successful ACPS implementation for recorded music in 2023.

"We continuously innovate for the benefit of the music ecosystem," says Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier. "Our model ensures that a higher share of what subscribers pay goes to the artists they love, while also counteracting fraudulent streaming behavior."

SACEM CEO Cécile Rap-Veber adds that the ACPS model promotes "more equitable distribution of revenue by rewarding true music, excluding noise, and better accounting for diversity of aesthetics and genres listened to on the platform."

Both organizations expect this partnership to inspire similar changes across the music industry, fostering a more sustainable and equitable environment for creators.
