YouTube will also provide production facilities to affected creators and artists once it's safe to reopen their offices, and plans to organize community events supporting recovery efforts.
"Los Angeles is the heart of entertainment and storytelling and has an impact on culture all over the world," said YouTube CEO Neal Mohan. "Like so many, we've been heartbroken by the devastation from the wildfires and want to do our part to support the community as it rebuilds."
Other major tech companies have also made significant contributions:
- Snap: $5 million in immediate aid distributed across multiple organizations
- Meta: $4 million combined donation from Mark Zuckerberg, Priscilla Chan, and the company, including cash and advertising credits
- Additional support from entertainment companies including Disney, Comcast, Paramount, Universal, Netflix, Amazon, and Warner Bros. Discovery
Meta has also activated its Safety Check feature, which over 400,000 people have used to inform family and friends of their safety during this crisis.
