Starting as an intern in 2002, Roper rose to become President and Partner at Dualtone, where he played a pivotal role in signing and releasing over 200 albums. Under his leadership, the label garnered multiple Grammy nominations, four Grammy wins, and several Americana Music Association awards.
Roper was instrumental in championing successful artists including The Lumineers, Gregory Alan Isakov, Mt. Joy, Shakey Graves, Shovels & Rope, and many others. He pioneered what he called "Amerikinda," a diverse musical space celebrating exceptional songwriting across various genres.
Jeremiah Fraites of The Lumineers shared a touching memory: "When we were touring in our 15-passenger van without money for hotels, Paul showed up to the Nashville venue parking lot with beer and pizza. It was a small gesture for him, but massive for us."
"Paul led Dualtone and his team with dedication, authenticity, humor, and kindness," stated Dualtone in their official announcement. "His vision and unwavering commitment continue to define the heart and soul of Dualtone."
Roper is survived by his wife and four children. The family requests that donations be made to Corner to Corner in his memory.
His legacy of kindness, integrity, and passion for music continues to inspire the music industry at large, particularly within the Nashville music community where his impact was deeply felt.
