Facebook has launched "Sound Collection," a new library of pre-cleared music content to help creators avoid copyright strikes and DMCA takedowns on their videos.

The Sound Collection includes:

  • 1,000 free, pre-cleared songs from indie artists
  • 1,500+ sound effects
  • Tracks spanning multiple genres (hip hop, pop, jazz, country)
  • Easy discovery tools to browse by genre, mood, length, and vocals

This initiative aims to solve a major problem on Facebook where musicians frequently face video takedowns when using copyrighted songs, particularly from major publishers like Universal Music Publishing Group. By using content from the Sound Collection, creators are guaranteed their videos won't be removed.

Facebook owns all rights to the content in the Sound Collection, making it safe to use across both Facebook and Instagram. The company plans to continuously expand the library with more tracks and effects.

This launch comes as Facebook continues negotiations with major music labels and publishers to license copyrighted music for user-uploaded videos, though the pre-cleared catalog provides an immediate solution while potentially giving Facebook more leverage in these discussions.

The Sound Collection offers musicians and content creators a lawful way to add music to their videos while avoiding copyright issues that have historically plagued the platform. This represents an important step in Facebook's efforts to create a more creator-friendly environment.
