The lawsuit claims the initial rape allegations were "knowingly false" and "maliciously" timed to cause maximum damage to Carter's reputation. The accusations stemmed from an alleged incident at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000, where both Jay-Z and Diddy were accused of assaulting a minor.
Key points of Jay-Z's countersuit:
- Claims Buzbee sent an "extortionate" demand letter before publicly filing
- Alleges Doe admitted to representatives the story was false
- States Buzbee pushed forward despite knowing the allegations were untrue
- Seeks damages for malicious prosecution, abuse of process, civil conspiracy, and defamation
Buzbee responded to Variety, denying the countersuit's merit and claiming:
- Carter's investigators have harassed and threatened the accuser
- The quotes attributed to Jane Doe in the lawsuit are fabricated
- Investigators were caught offering payment for suits against Buzbee's firm

The case highlights ongoing tensions between high-profile defendants and accusers in the #MeToo era, particularly regarding anonymous allegations and the role of legal representation in such cases.
