Jay-Z has revealed himself as the anonymous plaintiff who filed a 236-page extortion lawsuit against attorney Tony Buzbee in November 2023. The lawsuit comes in response to rape allegations filed against the rapper by one of Buzbee's clients.

The accuser, identified as Jane Doe, claims she was assaulted by Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) when she was 13 years old at a VMAs afterparty in 2000. She is now 37 years old and was initially part of a larger lawsuit involving Sean "Diddy" Combs, where Jay-Z was referred to as "Celebrity A."

Carter's legal team, led by attorney Alex Spiro, has requested the court to require Jane Doe to reveal her identity to proceed with litigation. The extortion lawsuit alleges that Buzbee threatened to release false accusations of sexual assault, including claims involving both male and female minors, unless Carter met certain demands.

According to the filing, "Plaintiff John Doe is the victim of a scheme by Defendant Anthony G. Buzbee and his firm [...], who are shamelessly attempting to extort exorbitant sums from him or else publicly file wildly false horrific allegations against him."

Buzbee has denied all allegations of wrongdoing and has accused Jay-Z of orchestrating a campaign of harassment and bullying against him and his family through social media posts. Carter's legal team has included these posts in their filing as evidence of what they describe as attempts to blackmail and publicly embarrass the rapper.
