Lawsuit Claims Diddy's Mother Orchestrated Bad Boy Co-Founder's Forced Exit in 1996
Bad Boy Entertainment co-founder Kirk Burrowes has filed a lawsuit alleging he was forced to give up his 25% stake in the label during a violent confrontation with Diddy in 1996. The lawsuit names Diddy's mother, Janice Smalls, as the majority stakeholder who now holds these shares.

According to the lawsuit, Diddy and Bad Boy attorney Kenneth Meiselas appeared in Burrowes' office with a baseball bat, physically intimidating him into signing over his shares. Burrowes claims he was crying and "fearing for his life" during the incident.
The 62-year-old former executive, who invested $100,000 in BBE's launch, states he is now homeless due to subsequent industry blacklisting. He alleges Smalls orchestrated a "decades-long scheme of intimidation, violence, fraudulent misrepresentation, and financial concealment."
Key lawsuit demands include:
- Reinstatement of his 25% ownership stake
- Compensation for financial losses
- A forensic audit of Bad Boy Entertainment's earnings
Burrowes, who is godfather to Diddy's eldest son Justin, seeks justice through his attorney Tyrone Blackburn. Meanwhile, Diddy remains in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting trial on federal charges including sex trafficking and racketeering.
The case highlights the complex relationship between the former business partners, with Burrowes directly addressing Smalls: "We started this out as a family unit... I looked out for your family, and you let them, as well as yourself, destroy mine. See you in court."
