Key Details of the Lawsuit:
- Defendants include Lil Durk, manager Andrew Bonsu, Only the Family label, and consulting firm TTPMG
- Dispute centers on rights to a recording called "Bedtime"
- Exceed paid $450,000 of a planned $600,000 total payment
- Agreement would have given Exceed perpetual royalty rights to the song
The Issue: Alamo Records (Sony Music) informed Exceed in May that Lil Durk was under an exclusive recording agreement, meaning the defendants had no authority to sell rights to "Bedtime." When Exceed attempted to recover their $450,000 payment, they were allegedly met with silence.
Damages Sought:
- $450,000 initial payment return
- $600,000 contractual penalty
- Additional damages for:
- Reputational harm
- SEC registration expenses
- Investor refund costs
Total damages sought exceed $12 million. The case highlights growing complications in music rights deals as new investment models emerge in the industry.
