Meta Launches $50M Creator Fund to Boost Mixed Reality Development for Quest
Meta has announced a new $50 million Creator Fund alongside its Meta Horizon Worlds desktop editor launch, aiming to attract developers to build experiences for its mixed reality headsets.

The fund targets both mobile and mixed reality content development, allowing Meta to reach potential users who don't own Quest headsets. Creators in eligible countries can earn through the Meta Horizon Creator Program, which has expanded beyond the US, UK, and Canada to include 18 new countries across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Oceania.
Monthly bonuses will be distributed based on:
- Time spent in worlds
- User retention rates
- In-world purchases
Key features of the initiative include:
- A new desktop editor supporting traditional 2D and 3D development
- Custom model import capabilities
- TypeScript support for game logic
- Mobile optimization tools
- Generative AI tools (US only) for sound effects and ambient audio
- A $1 million mobile-focused competition launching March 11
The program is open to creators aged 13 and above in countries where Horizon Worlds is available. This approach mirrors Roblox's Creator Fund, though Meta's model rewards based on engagement rather than providing upfront funding.
