Neil Young Ditches Platinum Tickets, Slams Concert Price Exploitation
Neil Young has announced he will no longer use Ticketmaster's platinum ticketing system for his upcoming tour, calling it fan exploitation. Young cites The Cure's Robert Smith's successful efforts to keep ticket prices and service fees low as inspiration for his decision.
"Dynamic pricing is the story of the bad thing that has happened to concerts world-wide," Young stated on his Neil Young Archives site. While the system was intended to combat scalpers by redirecting profits to artists, Young felt the high prices weren't right for his fans.
"I have decided to let the people work this out. Buy aggressively when the tickets come out or tickets will cost a lot more in a secondary market," Young explained.
