The lawsuit claims that following her show at Detroit's Little Caesars Arena on April 21, Minaj summoned Garrett to her dressing room through her head of security. During the meeting, which included eight staff members, Minaj allegedly became angry over staff management issues and struck Garrett in the face after a dispute about prescription pickups.
According to the filing, Garrett claims:
- The open-handed strike caused his head to swing backward and his hat to fall off
- He suffered a throbbing wrist injury from the altercation
- He locked himself in a restroom for several hours afterward
- He was subsequently removed from the tour before the next Chicago stop
- He attempted to file a police report in Detroit but was unable to do so in person
Minaj's attorney, Judd Burstein, has denied the allegations, stating they are "completely false and frivolous" while noting that no official complaint has been served yet. The lawsuit seeks punitive, exemplary, and general damages.
