According to the lawsuit filed in California federal court, Mercer recorded vocals for "Kelly K" with producer Jake One (Jacob Dutton), who is officially credited on the track. The suit claims Mercer never transferred his rights to the vocals before the song's release.

Key points of the lawsuit:

  • In July 2019, Playboi Carti's team offered Mercer a 5% ownership interest in "Kelly K"
  • Mercer signed the agreement on January 24th, 2020
  • Despite the agreement, Mercer claims he hasn't received any payment or accounting
  • After attempting to contact defendants via email and certified mail to rescind the deal, Mercer received no response

The lawsuit names multiple defendants:

  • Playboi Carti (Jordan Carter)
  • Cash Carti Music
  • Universal Music
  • Interscope Records

Mercer is pursuing legal action for:

  • Copyright infringement
  • California publicity-right violations
  • Breach of contract
  • Unjust enrichment

Playboi Carti has not publicly addressed the lawsuit. His third studio album, "I Am Music," is expected to release soon, with the lead single "All Red" having dropped in September.
