Born Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., OG Maco rose to prominence after signing with Quality Control Music following the success of "U Guessed It." His family released a statement celebrating his life as "a testament to resilience, creativity, and boundless love."

Throughout his career, OG Maco faced significant health challenges. In 2016, he survived a serious car accident with multiple injuries. He later battled necrotizing fasciitis, a rare skin-eating disease that developed from an improperly treated facial injury, requiring extensive medical treatment and multiple surgeries.

Before his death, he had been hospitalized since December 12 following an apparent suicide attempt. Despite initial social media rumors about his passing earlier in the month, his family confirmed he remained in critical condition until his death on December 26.

His family expressed gratitude to fans, stating: "To all of Maco's fans, friends, and supporters: thank you for standing by him throughout his journey. Today, we celebrate a life that was extraordinary in every way."
