The South African composer gained international recognition after writing and performing the iconic opening of "Circle of Life" for the 1994 Disney classic The Lion King. His collaboration with Hans Zimmer began with 1992's The Power of One, leading to multiple Lion King projects, including the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King.
Morake's impressive portfolio includes scores for:
- Tears of the Sun (2003)
- The Legend of Tarzan (2016)
- The Woman King (2022)
While specific financial terms remain undisclosed, this acquisition strengthens Reservoir's position in the film score market. The company already holds rights to works by Hans Zimmer and Henry Jackman, with its total catalog now exceeding 150,000 compositions and 36,000 recordings.
"Lebo's music has moved generations of film lovers," said Reservoir CEO Golnar Khosrowshahi, highlighting the composer's significant cultural impact.
Morake, through his Till Dawn Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: "I'm proud to join forces with Reservoir, a company that recognizes the power of music to unite and inspire. This partnership will enable me to continue pushing the boundaries of creativity and sharing my music with new generations."
This deal represents another strategic acquisition for Reservoir Media, whose shares have increased approximately 18% following recent activist investor activity.
