These enhancements aim to create a more immersive audiobook experience while helping Spotify compete with YouTube in the video content space. CEO Daniel Ek has indicated further video expansion plans following increased video consumption on the platform.

The "Follow Along" feature transforms the traditional audiobook experience by displaying visuals where the book cover typically appears. Users can access these visuals through the "extras" section, complete with chapter timestamps for easy navigation.

The Sleep Timer addition allows listeners to automatically stop playback after a set duration, helping premium subscribers manage their listening hours efficiently.

Currently, these features are:

  • Mobile-only
  • Limited to select authors and publishers
  • Available to premium subscribers in supported markets
  • Accessible on any participating author or publisher's content
