Surf Brand Lost International Takes Legal Action Against Lady Gaga Over Mayhem Logo Trademark
Lost International, a California surf company, has filed a lawsuit against Lady Gaga, claiming trademark infringement over the Mayhem logo used on her new merchandise. The complaint was filed in California district court on March 25.

The surf company alleges that Gaga's merchandise logo is "substantially similar if not nearly identical" to their trademarked Mayhem logo, which they've been using since 1986 for surfboards, equipment, clothing, and accessories. The trademark was officially registered in 2015, and "Mayhem" is also the nickname of Lost International's co-founder, Matt Biolos.
Lost International claims they sent a cease and desist letter to Lady Gaga's team, which was ignored. They're now seeking a trial by jury, arguing that the similarity in logos could mislead consumers and damage their brand reputation.
Lady Gaga's attorney, Orin Snyder, responded by calling the lawsuit "opportunistic and meritless," highlighting that Gaga's Mayhem album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
The pop star is scheduled to begin her Mayhem Ball tour in July, featuring 32 shows across North America, Europe, and the UK through November. In a recent ELLE interview, Gaga described Mayhem as being "about following your own chaos into whatever cranny of your life that it takes you to."
