Ticketmaster has agreed to pay $6 million CAD to settle a class action lawsuit in Canada over "drip pricing" practices, where additional fees were allegedly hidden until checkout during ticket purchases.

The settlement addresses violations of the Consumer Protection and Business Practices Act from January to June 2018. While Ticketmaster denies wrongdoing, they've agreed to compensate affected customers with up to $45 in transferrable credit for future ticket purchases.

Key Settlement Details:

  • Eligible customers: Those who purchased tickets in Canada between January 1-June 30, 2018
  • Compensation: Up to $45 in Ticketmaster credit via electronic gift cards
  • Potential beneficiaries: Up to 100,000 Saskatchewan residents and over 1 million across Canada
  • Legal fees: $1.7 million allocated to attorneys
  • Lead plaintiff compensation: $25,000 to Crystal Watch

This settlement follows a similar 2019 case where the Competition Bureau of Canada fined Ticketmaster $4 million for misleading pricing practices. Any unclaimed settlement funds will be distributed to court-approved organizations selected by both Ticketmaster and the plaintiff.

Justice Graeme Mitchell of Saskatchewan's Court of King's Bench noted that while not a "mega-settlement," this case represents an important consumer protection victory that could only have been achieved through class action.

Affected customers should expect email communication from Ticketmaster with instructions for claiming their credit.
