Amazon has invested an additional $4 billion in AI startup Anthropic, bringing its total investment to $8 billion while maintaining a minority stake in the company.

The partnership focuses on developing advanced AI capabilities through close collaboration between Anthropic and Amazon's Annapurna Labs at AWS. They are working together on optimizing Trainium accelerators and enhancing machine learning hardware through direct kernel development and contributions to the AWS Neuron software stack.

The company has requested dismissal of three out of four counts in a copyright infringement case filed in August 2024, maintaining only the direct copyright infringement claim. The dispute centers on whether Anthropic's use of copyrighted music and lyrics for AI training falls under fair use protection.
