The deal encompasses all companies under PMG, including Proper Music Distribution, Proper Records, Proper Music Publishing, and propermusic.com. This strategic acquisition enables both PMD and Artone clients to access comprehensive pan-European distribution services, including production, packaging, retail, and direct-to-consumer sales.
Jan Willem Kaaschieter, Artone's CEO, states that PMD's acquisition aligns perfectly with their expansion strategy, ensuring continued support for independent labels and artists in the UK market.
Key aspects of the acquisition:
- New multi-year lease secured for PMD's Dartford warehouse
- PMD currently serves over 5,000 independent labels
- Drew Hill continues as Managing Director after 18 years of leadership
- Companies will operate independently from Proper Group AG (formerly Utopia Music AG)
Drew Hill emphasizes that this transition secures the business's future while maintaining their commitment to independent artists and labels. The partnership with Artone aims to strengthen the physical distribution sector and preserve diverse music choices for consumers.
This acquisition marks a significant development in the independent music distribution landscape, promising enhanced services and stability for the UK's independent music community.
