Hip-Hop Producer Turbo Wins $10M Legal Battle Over Famous 'Run That Back' Tag
Producer Turbo has successfully defended against a $10 million infringement claim regarding his famous 'Run that back, Turbo' producer tag, with the court dismissing all claims on March 7, 2024.

The lawsuit was filed in January 2024 by musician Jamal Britt, who recorded the vocal tag during a 2017 song called "Afghanistan." Britt claimed he never authorized his voice to be used in future songs, including tracks by prominent artists like Lil Baby, Gunna, Nicki Minaj, and Chris Brown.
The defendants included major industry players:
- Warner Chappell Music
- Quality Control
- Motown Records
- Capitol Records
- Young Stoner Life Records
- 300 Entertainment
- Universal Music Group
- Chris Brown Entertainment
- Young Money Records
- Cash Money Records
- Republic Records
Britt sought joint ownership of the tag, damages, and past royalty compensation, claiming he was never notified, credited, or compensated for the use of his voice. However, the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division, dismissed all claims without prejudice, confirming Turbo's exclusive rights to use the producer tag in future works.
The producer tag remains active, most recently appearing in Turbo's latest release "Classy Girl" featuring Gunna, which was released to streaming platforms last week.
