The plaintiff, currently known as Jane Doe, filed the lawsuit in June, claiming that Diplo (Thomas Wesley Pentz) filmed their sexual encounters and shared them on Snapchat without consent. Judge Mónica Ramírez Almadani determined that while the allegations are sensitive, the accuser failed to demonstrate a legal necessity for anonymity.
The judge acknowledged the personal nature of the allegations but emphasized the importance of open judicial proceedings, stating that anonymous proceedings should be reserved for high-risk situations.
The accuser's attorneys, Margaret Mabie and Helene Weiss, expressed disappointment with the ruling, highlighting concerns about power imbalances and the permanent digital footprint that could link survivors to their trauma. They noted such decisions are becoming increasingly common in celebrity abuse cases.
Diplo's legal team welcomed the ruling, having argued that the DJ cannot properly defend himself against the allegations without knowing his accuser's identity. Diplo has consistently denied all allegations in the lawsuit.
