Lil Wayne has announced he's releasing "something special" on February 6, coinciding with Kendrick Lamar's Apple Music Radio interview. The announcement comes after Wayne expressed disappointment about not being selected as the Super Bowl LIX halftime performer in his hometown of New Orleans.

"Y'all know I'm not gon' be there this week," Wayne stated on Instagram. "I've been working on something very special. I've got something exciting coming for you. Thursday the 6th."

The timing is notable as it aligns with Kendrick Lamar's second interview since his Drake beef. Their relationship has been in the spotlight recently after K.Dot referenced Wayne on his album GNX, rapping "Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down."

Wayne responded to these lyrics on social media, tweeting: "Man wtf I do? I just be chillin' and dey still kome 4 my head. Let's not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep."

In a conversation with Skip Bayless, Wayne later clarified his feelings about both Kendrick's lyrics and the Super Bowl situation: "He didn't let me down. His hard work is the reason why he made it there, and obviously that part about letting me down is me being upset and disappointed about not getting that spot."

While fans speculated the NFL might choose a hometown artist following the precedent set by the Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre halftime show in California, such geographic considerations have never been a formal selection criterion for the event.
