Rome Ramirez has announced his departure from Sublime With Rome at the end of 2024, with strong indications that Bradley Nowell's son, Jakob, will become the band's new frontman.

Rome has been the band's frontman for 15 years, touring with original member Eric Wilson as Sublime With Rome since 2010. The name was established as a legal compromise with Bradley Nowell's widow, Troy Dendekker, who previously sued to prevent the use of just "Sublime."

On December 11, Jakob Nowell performed with original Sublime members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh at a benefit show for Bad Brains leader H.R. in Los Angeles. This marked Gaugh's first performance with the band since leaving in 2011. Billboard reports that Jakob, along with his mother, has agreed with Wilson and Gaugh to relaunch Sublime under the management of Kevin Zinger and Joe Escalante.

Rome Ramirez shared on Instagram: "The upcoming performances over the next year will allow us to reflect on countless incredible memories together! Singing and playing guitar for this iconic band has been a lifetime opportunity and just flat-out absolutely epic."

Jakob, who was an infant when his father died in 1996, has been active in the music scene with his band Jakob's Castle for over a decade. Festival promoters are already showing interest in booking the potentially relaunched Sublime with Jakob at the helm.

Current tour schedules include:

  • Jakob's Castle: Opening for G Love & Special Sauce through March 2024
  • Sublime With Rome: New Zealand tour in February 2024
  • Rome Ramirez's departure: End of 2024

No official announcements about "Sublime with Jakob" have been made, but any new content would likely emerge after 2025, following the conclusion of Sublime With Rome's commitments.
