TikTok Back on App Stores After Justice Department Assures No Fines for Apple, Google
TikTok has returned to both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store following a crucial letter from US Attorney General Pam Bondi. The letter assured Apple they would not face fines under the current administration for allowing TikTok downloads after January 19.

The Biden administration's ban initially included a $5,000 fine per download for platform owners, which had prompted both Apple and Google to remove the app from their stores. While Android users could still sideload TikTok, iOS users had no alternative download method.
According to Sensor Tower, TikTok's download distribution in the previous year was nearly even between platforms:
- Apple App Store: 52% of downloads
- Google Play Store: 48% of downloads
President Trump has indicated that while the 75-day deadline for TikTok to find a U.S. partner could be extended, he doesn't believe it's necessary. Vice President J.D. Vance and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz are leading a task force to oversee the sale of TikTok's U.S. operations.
Multiple potential buyers have expressed interest in acquiring the social media platform. President Trump has suggested TikTok could potentially become part of a new U.S. sovereign wealth fund. With the app's return to major app stores, the immediate pressure of the ban appears to have subsided.
