Austin's Iconic Waterloo Records Announces New Owners and Relocation After 42 Years
Waterloo Records, an Austin music institution for 42 years, is relocating from 600 North Lamar to 1105 North Lamar in Spring under new ownership. Long-time owner John Kunz will transition the business to Caren Kelleher and Trey Watson while maintaining a minority stake.

- 50% larger space (expanding from 6,400 sq. ft.)
- Enhanced event space with larger stage
- Better parking
- Closer proximity to downtown music venues
The new owners bring extensive music industry experience:
- Caren Kelleher: Founder & CEO of Gold Rush Vinyl, which has pressed records for thousands of musicians since 2018
- Trey Watson: CEO of Armadillo Records and President of Globe Entertainment & Media Corp
Waterloo Records' History:
- Founded: April 1, 1982
- Original co-owners: John Kunz and Louis Karp
- Won "Best Record Store" award in first year
- Added video rentals in 1985
- Kunz became sole owner in 1987
"My decades-long hope has been for Waterloo Records & Video to live on forever, continuing to promote Austin's vibrant music culture and community," says Kunz. The new ownership will maintain all existing staff while providing them opportunities for store ownership, ensuring the store's legacy continues while expanding its capabilities to serve Austin's music community.
