Facebook is implementing new restrictions on promotional content in newsfeeds starting in 2015. Here are the key changes:

Posts that will be less visible:

  • Direct product promotions or app install requests
  • Promotional contests and sweepstakes without context
  • Content that duplicates paid ads

These changes affect organic (non-paid) posts from Pages. Facebook claims this is in response to user feedback about too many promotional posts in their feeds.

Additionally, as of November 5th, Pages can no longer offer incentives in exchange for likes or shares.

Key considerations:

  • Focus on creating valuable, engaging content rather than direct promotions
  • Build authentic relationships with fans through quality posts
  • Consider paid advertising for purely promotional content
  • Diversify social media presence across multiple platforms
  • Monitor engagement metrics to optimize content strategy

The most successful Pages will be those that balance promotional content with posts that genuinely engage their audience and provide value to followers.
