Former President Trump expressed a "warm spot" for TikTok and suggested he might address the platform's impending U.S. ban, citing its role in helping him win significant youth support during his campaign. Speaking at Mar-a-Lago, Trump noted that TikTok contributed to his reported 34-point lead among young voters.

This marks a significant shift from his previous stance during his first presidential term, when he supported banning the platform. Trump now appears reluctant to support actions that might benefit Meta, particularly after his social media accounts were suspended.

The timing is crucial, as TikTok faces a potential U.S. ban starting January 19, following Congress's April legislation requiring ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, to divest within 270 days or cease operations. The U.S. government maintains that TikTok poses national security concerns due to its Chinese ownership, specifically regarding data privacy and content manipulation risks.

Despite Trump's expressed interest in "saving" TikTok, he hasn't outlined a specific plan to prevent the ban, which would take effect the day before he could potentially return to office. The platform's attempts to appeal the decision were recently rejected by the government.
