Paramount Global is temporarily suspending several major entertainment events in 2025 as part of its strategic reorganization during the pending merger with Skydance Media. The affected events include the CMT Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards Mexico, and the MTV MIAWs.

Bruce Gillmer, Paramount's president of music, music talent, programming and events, announced the decision through an internal memo, emphasizing that these changes are part of an effort to "reimagine and optimize" the company's events portfolio. He assured that events remain a crucial component of Paramount's music strategy.

This decision follows Paramount's broader restructuring efforts initiated in August, which included:

  • 15% reduction in US workforce
  • Closure of Paramount TV Studios
  • Multiple rounds of layoffs affecting various divisions
  • Expected savings of approximately $500 million

The company maintains that these changes are temporary, with plans to continue delivering "iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that drive pop culture" through their remaining events programming. The merger with Skydance Media is expected to complete in the first half of 2025.

The pause affects some of entertainment's most prestigious ceremonies but reflects the broader industry trend of traditional media companies adapting to changing market conditions and viewer preferences.
